Here is an example of a Strategic Logging Plan in steeper Appalachian Topography. This plan is the result of evaluating slopes and ground impacts and costs of alternative logging systems to arrive at a plan which meets the landowners objectives at the least cost. Further ananlysis will enable a harvesting cost ranking of each unit in the plan, thereby allowing for planned harvest costs while meeting land management objectives. Winter time work / seasonal work can also be planned and implemented in a scheduled fashion. Such scheduling has been proven to lower contract logging rates and enhance logging contractor viability. Specific roading projects can be identified which allow the development of a transportation system which serves to facilitate management at the lower cost, both economically and environmentally.
